Firefighters Day at Museum Village - July 18, 2009
Honor our Heroes in Red and help preserve Museum Village’s unique collection of early pumpers, steamers, ladder trucks and hose carts while enjoying a day of games, music, and BBQ. Host Company, South Blooming Grove, and fire departments from across the region will be bringing their rigs and engines, including a 1955 Ford Engine, courtesy of the Mountain Lodge Fire department. Kids and parents alike will enjoy games such as hose and turn out gear races as well as candy drops. The SUNY Orange Symphonic Band caps the day with music with an Americana repertoire. The print shop and black smith will be operating at full force. The day features The Jaws of Life, a rescue worker’s training drill. Orange County Inflatable provides a dunk tank to raise additional funds. Enjoy the day and help Museum Village preserve the firehouse and the history it celebrates.

Distinguished Visitor at the Museum!

Thanks to Orange County Choppers for loaning the OCFM the Fire Bike for display. It's back home at OC Choppers now.

Built as a tribute to the 343 New York firefighters who perished in the attacks of September 11, 2001, the Fire Bike is one of the most famous bikes to ever roll out of the Orange County Choppers shop in Montgomery, New York. Appropriately assembled of parts from across the country, the Fire Bike is a symbol of the unity, honor, and pride that swept the country after 911. With a gas tank from California, a carburetor from Texas, wheels from New Hampshire, and a swing arm from Oklahoma, the Fire Bike is a stunning portrayal of the effects of this fateful day on the nation. By far the focal point and most meaningful piece of the bike is the bolt affixed atop the gas tank; a part of history recovered by a firefighter from the ashes of the World Trade Center. Paul Teutul Sr. said it best when he said, “It’s not just an Orange County chopper. It’s a New York City chopper.” Visit them at
